After two days packed with input and discussions on Central Asia, we are tired and hoarse, but enthusiastic about the range of research and projects we were able to learn about at the Central Asia Forum in Halle.
There were varied and comprehensive presentations on a wide range of topics, such as the cultural history of Central Asia and insights from existing initiatives into cooperation between the countries of Central Asia and Germany. Topics discussed included urban heat islands, forests, and biomass estimation in agriculture. Some of the presentations were even given in Russian with simultaneous translation via headphones.
Many ideas emerged from this, as well as from discussions with other participants, some of whom our CEO Gunther Schorcht already knew from his previous activities in the region.
Of the approximately 120 participants, our colleagues Denise Dejon and Gunther Schorcht were two of the few representatives from the business community. This shows how important projects are that strengthen cooperation between Germany and Central Asia and also spark the interest of German industry in the region.
We would like to express our thanks to Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, especially the CASIB project office, and the Deutsche Luft- und Raumfahrtagentur for organizing the event, and to the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space for its financial support!
